Greetings,
I love this song!! It has been one of a few special favorites of mine. King Solomon versed many songs, poems and this was one of them. The Bryds were inspired I’m sure, to obtain these words and put to music.
When my father had made his transition, this is the very poem I had read at his service.
I believe the words are exquisite in the story of how man must go through the adversities that confront him in his everyday living experience and be given the chance to turn those adversities around into the positive transformation of himself, and the environment that he finds himself in or surrounds himself with. He has to experience in order to grow. How true, how true, that there is a time and there is a season.
Thank you for posting such a beautiful song, the words “Oldies but Goodies” ring true here.
Love and Light,
Lesley
Lesley, this song is a particular favorite of mine as well. It’s very special and inspiring that you read this poem at the service when your dear father transitioned, that is so beautiful!
I understand your love for your father, Lesley. I am feeling it.
Peace and Love
Na’imah
Greetings Na’imah,
My father, not a religious man(I did not grow up in a religious environment)yet he was well read. Both my father and mother loved to read and I along with my siblings were introduced at a very young age to all sorts of reading material found in books. I’m thankful for that!
Although not raised in any religious doctrines, the bible was a book, therefore a fixture of the many books that occupied the bookcases in my families home and I believe Dante’s Inferno, if my memory serves me, was right up there beside the bible. My parents read to us when we were wee little folks, whether we understood at such a young age what they were reading or not, it did not matter, they still read, that was the importance. As I grew in age and curiosity I could not wait to learn how to read as too did my siblings. My parents gladly helped to teach each one of us to read when we each sought for them to do so. I was so happy when I started my first day of first grade(we did not have a pre-school or kindergarten then)I was only four. Six years of age was usually the starting age but I was already reading and doing some simple math and spelling so I was excepted. I was handed my first grade reader that contained the characters of Dick, Jane, Sally, Spot the dog, and Puff the cat and of course the parents. That was special to me, my own book to start my library! I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity given me. I wanted to absorb. I have not stopped reading books even unto this day!
Anyway, I believe I was still quite young when I decided to read the bible and see just what was in there that had garnered so many followers. (That is another story in itself of my personal thoughts but not for this posting). But while reading I came across a song by King Solomon. Those words stood out to me and I was impressed. I with bible in hand went outside to where my father was busy planting a new flower bed and let him know that I had found something in the bible that I thought he would enjoy as much as I did. Daddy as I called him, wiped his hands and took the book and looked at what I had pointed to. A smile came across his face and he looked up at me and said, so you like that too do you. I said yes I do, but I didn’t know you did too, you never read that to us before, you never read the bible to us, why? He said that that is the one book in the family library that your mother and I decided that we should leave up to you children to interpret when your curiosity brings you to pick up that book and read what is between its covers. I left what he had just said at that and did not question any further. Because I loved to hear my father read, I asked my father to read King Solomon’s song to me. He closed the book and lay it aside. He gave me his hand and I sat beside my father on the cool soft grass and with that gentle hand upon mine,he voiced King Solomons song from memory. That voice so near and yet so far had a resonance that to this very day I still feel when I bring it forward in my memory. He often recited poetry from books, but he surprised me with this one. I hugged him so very tightly when he had finished reciting, Although I did not understand everything that he recited, I knew that some day I would and that I would thank him in return.
And so you can see why I found that song very fitting for my father’s farewell.
Na’imah, I know that you are very much in tune and that you do understand the love I had and still have for the soul that was my father in this life, and that you do feel it!
Love and Light Always,
Lesley
Beautiful song and lyrics, “a song of positive hope,” I agree! I have loved this song since the first time I heard it sung by folk singer, Pete Seeger, who put this inspirational verse from King Solomon’s Book of Ecclesiastes to music, and later the lovely recording by The Byrds. Listening to the lyrics, you can so easily envision the cycles of life turning in one direction, revolving, and turning again to a new direction, new revelations, with the pattern spiraling ever upward…“to everything there is a season.” Years ago, I had a plaque on my wall with this verse as inspiration. Thank you for posting the song and video. It is truly a Song of Muse!
Love, Light and Peace,
Madilyn
Greetings Madilyn,
I too, remember Pete Seeger singing that song, but my senses did not care for the tones coming forth from his voice box in regards to this song and therefore never listened again whenever he sang it, although, there were a couple other songs I enjoyed coming forth from him, but I felt he just did not have the frequencies needed for this particular song.
The Bryds refreshed that song, I feel, with the proper frequencies and were able to harmonize those words. Each and everyone of us are attracted to certain frequencies as we well know and we determine which we prefer. I never tire from hearing that song sung, by this group, and I fully appreciate that it is on this Beautiful site for me to hear anytime I wish.
Love and Light Always,
Lesley
